to that newt gingrich debate in florida where he dispatched newt gingrich. he can be very good. i think he can have real highs, but also can have lows and say the darnedest things sometimes. >> i want to bring in georgia congressman tom price. good to see you, good morning. >> good to be with you. >> one of the things we are being told from inside the romney camp is he is getting ready for the 47% video. he knows the question is going to come up. this is what his advisor says. "we wouldn't be surprised, obviously, if that came up in the debate, and the governor's prepared, obviously, to respond about it. the fact is as governor romney has said repeatedly, he is running to help 100% of americans." he has said that. he said that repeatedly. it still resonating in a negative way with voters. what do you think he has to say about the 47% which has dogged his campaign since that video came out? >> remember, that was recorded during a fund-raising activity. it was a cut. this is an opportunity for governor romney to have his message come through unfiltered to the american people. that's, i think, wh

newt gingrich in the primaries? is that what they want, the base or whoever you talk about, they want newt gingrich snapping at the media and kind of performing before the stage, given the theatrics you referenced? >> it's a split personality thing. mitt romney as i've been writing for months is a flawed candidate who won in a weak field. look who came in second. rick santorum. newt gingrich came in third, ron paul came in fourth. as i wrote that, that's not a field. that's a therapy group. of that group, you know, mitt romney was the most, is the most electable of that group. the process worked. i don't think the republican party can really blame anybody or even themselves for nominating the wrong guy. the trouble is the guy who is the best of the field lacks the common touch that wealthy, privileged people need. franklin roosevelt, privileged, wealthy, had the common touch. john f. kennedy had the common touch. ted kennedy and bobby kennedy did. nelson rockefeller did in new york. mitt romney does not convey that. >> that is such an interesting point, roger, you're making. i believe

saw this during the republican primary. he faced a challenge from newt gingrich, he won. he faced a challenge from rick perry. people would say hey, this is a do-or-die debate. mitt romney must prove he can deliver the knockout blow, and he did do it in the debates time and time again. >> he did look very presidential in that group. we'll see how he does next to president obama which i think is a little bit different. >> yeah. >> that ohio poll is interesting because the cbs one we had last week had it at ten points. now we have another one showing it at nine points. if you start to look at the map, if he doesn't take iowa, if it gets away from him, it becomes difficult to put a puzzle together to win. >> by the way, there has been this narrative that there is the grand conspiracy and that the polls are skewed. this is what walter mondale said in 1984. this is what moveon.org said in 2004, that all the polls were skewed against john kerry and moveon.org said you just wait. and now you're hearing it frantically on the other side, which ironically, again, they are putting fox news i

's style. think about newt gingrich. the way he handled the difficult question from cnn, in that second or third debate. he won the audience over, he won the debate by virtue of the style of which he answered that question. >> well he won the style part of the debate. but he's going to be watching the debate on wednesday, right? joe and chris, always a pleasure, gentlemen, thank you. >>> still ahead here has the tea party glimmer started to fade? we're going to look at the latest example of a conservative candidate who, who's cooling the rhetoric a bit. >>> first as the supreme court prepares to start its new term, we flash back to the beginning of the roberts court. this is msnbc. ♪ [ male announcer ] how do you make 70,000 trades a second... ♪ reach one customer at a time? ♪ or help doctors turn billions of bytes of shared information... ♪ into a fifth anniversary of remission? ♪ whatever your business challenge, dell has the technology and services to help you solve it. whatever your business challenge, you know it can be hard to lbreathe, and how that feels.e, copd include
